Scarecrows along Main is sponsored by the Old Wethersfield Shopkeepers Association. \nIn 2026\, Scarecrows Along Main will partner with America250 CT\, encouraging participants to design displays inspired by Connecticut’s four America250 themes: \n\nTell Inclusive Stories – sharing histories that may have gone untold\nPower of Place – highlighting what makes our community unique\nDoing History – actively engaging in historical exploration and learning\nFor the Common Good – strengthening civic engagement and democracy\n\nThese themes invite creativity\, storytelling\, and community pride—and we can’t wait to see how they are brought to life. DESCRIPTION:October 18th\, 24th & 31st\, Witches & Tombstones Tour \nAn up-close and creepy examination of all things funereal\, our popular Witches & Tombstones tour returns on Saturday\, October 24th\, and October 31st. \nStart at the Isaac Stevens House as an attendee at an early-nineteenth-century wake and learn about mourning practices\, how illnesses were treated\, and how the living dealt with fears of being buried alive. Then visit Wethersfield’s Ancient Burying Ground. See the graves\, hear stories of those who met their end during Connecticut’s first mass murder\, and learn how gravestones warned the living of their own impending peril. The final stop on the tour is the Buttolph-Williams House (ca. 1711)\, the setting for the Newbery-winning children’s novel The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. Hear stories about the notorious Wethersfield Witch Trials\, which preceded the Salem Witch Trials by 30 years. Wethersfield Trolley Rides  \nThe Town of Wethersfield is proud to announce FREE trolley rides coming to Old Wethersfield! \nCome join us in Historic Wethersfield for a trolley ride stopping along Main Street on October 24th and 31st from 11am – 4pm. Enjoy an afternoon on Main Street and the Old Wethersfield Shopkeepers\, come see Scarecrows Along Main\, stop in a shop or two\, grab a cocktail or a bite to eat\, see the many historic homes\, visit the ancient burying grounds\, and have a historically fun time with friends. Parking at 100 Great Meadow Road parking lot or Keeney Center 200 Main Street\, then ride a continuous loop or get off at the different stops. \nThe trolley starts at 100 Great Meadow Road\, then heads to the Broad Street Green\, after that onward to Main Street where you’ll have three different chances to get off and explore.
